I don't know much about universal basic income. I am not the most awesome person with money. It feels like a chore to use it, transfer it, and exchange it. There is never enough. Everyone wants the money I have. I pay almost every dollar I make to another person who built a company...
I just want to do more stuff.
I have a lot to be thankful for, and I shouldn't have to fucking say that just to write about money. This is self editing because it is poor man's argument - agreeing with consensus from mainstreamers. This argument that I need to qualify my gratitude before I say that I want more than I already have is incorrect. It's important to leave in because I hear the thought and recognize it. I don't agree with it.
I don't think UBI will be a fantasy land where you could have everything you want. I view it as a useful lever to pull during a radical transition period where the future is uncertain - not as an end goal.
And, i could like, really use it right now. And so could a lot of other people who definitely need a little freedom (which you can buy turns out.)
Let me explain asshole. On Earth, there exists no hospitable land where you can build your own homestead, raise your own food, and be self-sufficient.
(Argument: off griders - What is the upfront capital investment for that?) Exactly.
I was amazed to learn that even a library card at my nearest library would cost me $25.00 because I lived just barely outside Person county.

Nothing is free. Not even the goddamned library anymore.
